The project was realized with the partnership of ILF Poland.
The project is a new underground railway tunnel from Rondo Daszynskiego in the city centre to Dworzec Wilenski on the northeast suburbs, which is located on the other side of the River Wisla. The project scheme included seven stations. Metro Line II is the long-awaited investment in the expansion of high-capacity public transport in Warsaw, which is expected to ease traffic congestion in the city, to decrease the overall carbon footprint of the urban transport sector, and to create crucial linkages with the first metro line by allowing users to transfer efficiently from the east side of Vistula River to the west side of the city.
The project involved the design of the central section of Line 2 of the Warsaw underground – 6.3 kilometres of tracks featuring 7 stations between the two terminals Rondo Daszynskiego and Dworzec Wilenski. The route involves underground crossing of the River Vistula between Powisle station and Stadion station.
A large part of the route runs through Warsaw’s subsoil (4.5 kilometres of tunnels split into 6 separate sections) and consists in a pair of parallel, single-track tunnels – a design solution which increases the new line’s safety, eliminating the risk of head-on collisions between trains.
