The Büyükdere Nursery, founded in 1930, was developed by benefiting from Italian horticulture experience. The nursery, which was established with the aim of examining fruit species and producing species suitable for the climate and then popularizing these species, has gardens that include species brought from abroad. There are many species under protection in the area, which is the first fruit garden and nursery in Turkey.

There are a total of 15 structures in the nursery. 14 of these structures have survived to the present day. A large part of 5 buildings has collapsed and turned into ruins.

A design approach that emphasizes the historical identity of the Büyükdere Nursery and preserves and develops its existing natural structure has been adopted. In this sense, the main objectives are to highlight the values of the project area, to avoid foreign uses and interventions that will compete with them, and to develop approaches consistent with the area’s own unique identity.
