Yildiz-Mahmutbey Metro Line is commissioned as the first fully automatic driverless metro of the European side of Istanbul. Mecidiyekoy-Mahmutbey stage section is the first stage of the line and will be providing services in between Kabatas and Esenyurt when it is completed and passes through Sisli, Kagithane, Eyup Sultan, Gaziosmanpasa, Esenler and Bagcilar districts where approximately 3 million people live. Fulya and Yıldız stations, located in the 2nd phase of the line, were commissioned on January 2nd, 2023, and their connection with Besiktas was established.

 

In 2023, it is estimated that the line will carry 807.000 passengers daily.

 

KMM is the first metro project in Turkey designed on a BIM platform using 5D design technology. Projects prepared by Prota were nominated to AEC Excellence Awards final in Infrastructure category.

 

The design works of the line started in October 2015 with the Building Information Modeling (BIM) system and are still continuing.

 

Operational Data of the whole line:

  • Total Line Length: 22, 5 Km.
  • Number of Stations: 19
  • Number of Cars: 144 (36 units of 4-car series)
  • One Way Journey Duration: 32 min.
  • Passenger Capacity: 70.000 Passengers/Hour
  • Journey Frequency: 6 min. (during peak hours)

Preliminary, final and detail (construction) design services for the metro rail system have been prepared by Prota.

 

The design services provided by Prota within the scope of the project are summarized below:

  • Communication design (CCTV, announcement, passenger information, emergency call, clock, radio system, driver platform monitoring, entrance security, line-wide radio system, tunnel radio and fiber optic cabling)
  • Acoustic Modeling Reporting (building acoustics, line vibration, noise analysis)
  • Environmental planning (landscape, road-traffic regulation, traffic displacement, Infrastructure and infrastructure displacement and drainage)
  • CFD, SES, piston effect simulations
